On September 30 and October 1, the InBridge4EU consortium convened at UPM (Madrid) for its fourth Regular Technical Meeting (RTM). At the “Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos”, the event brought together project partners, members of the Advisory Board, and representatives from Europe’s Rail, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas on the future of railway bridge dynamics in Europe.
The two-day meeting featured in-depth discussions across the five Work Packages (WP). After an introduction by the meeting’s host, José Goicolea (UPM), and by the project coordinator, Pedro Montenegro (UPORTO), Pedro Jorge (HUD) and Pedro Museros (UPV) presented WP1, where new train categories and their implications for bridge design were debated. Afterwards, Maria Dolores Martínez Rodrigo (UJI) discussed WP2 and a comprehensive bridge database analysis. The discussion on the first day concluded with WP3, during which Andreas Andersson (KTH) shared insights into dynamic amplification factors and modelling strategies.
On the second day, Pedro Montenegro (UPORTO) proposed Recommendations for composite and steel bridge classification in the context of WP4, and Matthias Baeßler (BAM) showed advances in ballasted track bridge research and experimental validation.
Participants also enjoyed a guided visit to UPM’s laboratories and the Torres Quevedo Museum, strengthening the collaborative spirit of the consortium.
The meeting concluded with an update on project milestones and dissemination activities, as well as the announcement of the next RTM, scheduled for Stockholm in July 2026.
