José María Goicolea (UPM) has been awarded the Special Award for Outstanding and Sustained Contribution to Structural Dynamics by the European Association of Structural Dynamics (EASD). The distinction was presented during the 13th International Conference on Structural Dynamics (EURODYN 2026), held from 27 September to 1 October in Hannover, Germany.
The award recognises his long-standing contributions to the field of structural dynamics and their impact on both research and engineering practice. The distinction highlights his “significant influence on the Eurocode standardization process, his pioneering work in railway bridge dynamics and sustained impact on engineering practice”.
Over several decades, José María Goicolea has played a leading role in advancing the understanding of railway bridge dynamics, contributing to the development of analysis methods and design approaches that are now widely used by researchers, engineers and infrastructure managers. His work has also helped bridge the gap between scientific research and standardisation, supporting the evolution of European codes and guidelines for railway infrastructure.
His expertise continues to contribute to the objectives of InBridge4EU, where he is involved in research aimed at improving the dynamic compatibility of railway bridges and rolling stock, and supporting future enhancements to European design provisions.
